**Bauchi Police Launch Crackdown on Unregistered Vehicles, Deploy Mobile Courts Statewide**
The Bauchi State Police Command has begun a statewide enforcement operation targeting unregistered vehicles and motorists using fake, concealed, or unauthorized number plates, as part of efforts to strengthen road safety and improve internal security.
The Command disclosed that mobile courts have been deployed across the state to ensure swift prosecution of offenders caught during the exercise.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, the operation is in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police and is aimed at addressing rising security concerns linked to unregistered and unidentifiable vehicles.
As part of the enforcement strategy, the police have established mobile courts in the five Area Command headquarters and other strategic locations within Bauchi metropolis to handle immediate prosecution of offenders.
The statement noted that the exercise targets vehicles operating without proper registration, those with covered or obscured number plates, as well as vehicles using fake or unauthorized plates.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, explained that unregistered vehicles pose serious threats to security, as they are often used to commit crimes such as kidnapping and armed robbery. He, however, emphasized that the operation is not intended to harass motorists but to enhance public safety and protect lives and property.
He added that offenders would face immediate prosecution under the Motor Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Laws and relevant Nigeria Police regulations, with penalties including fines and other sanctions.
The Command warned that any vehicle found in violation of the regulations would be impounded, urging motorists to ensure proper registration and visible display of number plates at all times.
It also called on residents to cooperate with law enforcement officers during the operation, stressing that the enforcement exercise would be sustained across the state without compromise.
The police further advised vehicle owners to regularize their documents and avoid covering, defacing, or altering their number plates in any form, noting that compliance would help improve security and reduce crime linked to vehicle misuse.
