**Police Probe Death of 71-Year-Old Cleric Found in Akungba-Akoko Hotel Room**
The Ondo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a senior Cherubim and Seraphim Church leader, Elder Omotayo Fajana, whose lifeless body was discovered in a hotel room in Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state.
The 71-year-old cleric was reportedly in Akungba-Akoko for a church programme where he was scheduled to be installed as the Head Prayer Warrior Father (Baba Aladura) of Ogo Orimolade C&S Church, Okerigbo, before his sudden death.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said three suspects had already been arrested in connection with the case and were assisting investigators in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to him, preliminary findings raised concerns about how the cleric’s body was handled after he was found dead, particularly its removal to a mortuary without proper medical certification of death.
He explained that the command had begun a thorough investigation to determine the actual cause of death and whether any criminal element was involved in the incident.
The police spokesperson noted that the incident was reported at the Akungba Division by a relative of the deceased, who stated that the cleric had travelled for a church assignment prior to his death.
He further disclosed that some individuals, including church officials and hotel staff, allegedly moved the deceased’s remains to a mortuary in Ikare-Akoko without first obtaining certification from a qualified medical practitioner, an action now under scrutiny by investigators.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Felix Ohagwu, has ordered a comprehensive and discreet investigation into the case, assuring that anyone found culpable will be brought to justice.
The command urged members of the public to remain calm and allow security operatives to carry out a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the cleric’s death.
Police authorities also reiterated their commitment to ensuring transparency and justice as investigations continue into the mysterious incident.
