Dariye Submits Peace and Security Report to Mutfwang as Plateau Seeks Lasting Solution to Violence

Former Plateau State Governor, Senator Joshua Dariye, has presented a comprehensive peace and security report to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, outlining recommendations aimed at addressing the persistent violence and insecurity affecting communities across the state.

The report comes at a time when Plateau State continues to experience attacks on rural communities, resulting in loss of lives, displacement of residents, and destruction of farmlands in several local government areas.

The security situation prompted Governor Mutfwang to lead a delegation from the state to meet President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja earlier this year to seek federal intervention and support.

Following the meeting, the President reportedly directed the state government to intensify efforts toward achieving lasting peace, which led to the formation of a strategic committee headed by former Governor Dariye.

The committee was tasked with examining the security challenges facing Plateau State, engaging relevant stakeholders, and proposing practical measures that would promote peace, social cohesion, and sustainable development.

Presenting the report at the Government House in Jos, Dariye described the assignment as one that directly concerns the protection of lives, communities, and the future stability of the state.

According to him, the committee produced a two-volume report containing findings, analyses, recommendations, and implementation strategies aimed at addressing the state’s security challenges.

He noted that the insecurity in Plateau is complex and cannot be attributed to a single cause, stressing that the crisis has historical, social, economic, and political dimensions.

The committee observed that several reports and peace initiatives already exist regarding Plateau’s challenges but noted that weak implementation and lack of institutional continuity have hindered meaningful progress.

Among the recommendations contained in the report are the protection of vulnerable communities, support for internally displaced persons, reconstruction of affected communities, youth empowerment, trauma healing, and livelihood restoration.

The committee also emphasized the importance of women participation, interfaith dialogue, traditional conflict resolution mechanisms, and improved educational opportunities.

Additionally, the report urged the state government to improve public communication by promoting positive narratives about Plateau and showcasing efforts aimed at peace, investment, tourism, and development.

Governor Mutfwang described the report as an important roadmap that would guide future discussions and interventions on security and peace-building in the state.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive dialogue, institutional reforms, and collaboration with the Federal Government in addressing the challenges confronting Plateau communities.

The governor also disclosed that President Tinubu demonstrated genuine concern during the state’s visit to Abuja and encouraged the government to pursue sustainable peace initiatives.

According to Mutfwang, misunderstandings surrounding the purpose of the presidential engagement made it necessary to establish the committee to provide clarity and promote wider understanding of the issues.

He commended traditional rulers, religious leaders, political stakeholders, and community leaders for their continued commitment to peaceful dialogue and cooperation.

The governor further announced plans to present the report before a larger stakeholders’ forum to allow broader participation and encourage collective ownership of the peace process.

He stressed that lasting peace can only be achieved when all groups and communities are given the opportunity to contribute to discussions and solutions.

As Plateau continues to confront security challenges, the report is expected to serve as a foundation for future policies and coordinated efforts aimed at restoring peace, rebuilding communities, and strengthening social harmony across the state.
