Security Forces Foil Fresh Attack on NIPSS in Plateau, Kill One Gunman During Shootout
Jos, Plateau State – Security operatives have successfully repelled another attack on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Plateau State, killing one suspected gunman during a fierce exchange of gunfire.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday when armed men attempted to breach the institute’s outer security perimeter. Alert security personnel responded immediately, leading to a gun battle that forced the attackers to retreat.
According to the institute’s management, one of the assailants was killed during the operation, while several others escaped, with some believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.
Authorities confirmed that the attackers failed to gain access to the institute. Participants of the Senior Executive Course, staff members, residents, and all facilities within the premises were unharmed.
This is the second attempted attack on the institute within a few days. Following the earlier incident, security around the strategic government facility was significantly strengthened.
The institute has since increased armed patrols, improved night surveillance, tightened access control measures, and intensified collaboration with other security agencies carrying out joint operations in Kuru and nearby communities.
Security officials said the enhanced measures followed intelligence reports warning of possible threats to key national institutions in Plateau State.
Authorities also disclosed that security assessments are ongoing to identify and address any vulnerabilities while ensuring the continued safety of the institute, which serves as Nigeria’s premier policy and leadership training centre for senior government officials.
The latest attack has renewed concerns about insecurity in parts of Plateau State and highlights the need for continued efforts to protect critical national infrastructure across the country.
