Daniel Bwala: Some Nigerians at Home Are Better Off Than Graduates Working Menial Jobs Abroad
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has said that many Nigerians who believe they are struggling at home may still be in a better position than some of their compatriots who relocated overseas in search of better opportunities.
Speaking during an appearance on The Morayo Podcast Show, Bwala argued that a significant number of highly educated Nigerians living abroad are employed in low-paying jobs that do not reflect their qualifications.
According to him, many graduates with bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and even Ph.Ds have taken up jobs in sectors such as caregiving, warehouse operations, and other manual occupations after relocating to countries like the United Kingdom.
Bwala, who said he resides in the UK, stated that some Nigerians pursue additional academic qualifications abroad but still struggle to secure professional jobs that match their educational backgrounds.
He described the situation as a form of “modern-day slavery,” arguing that many migrants endure difficult working conditions despite their impressive academic achievements.
The presidential aide suggested that while many Nigerians continue to seek opportunities outside the country, the reality of life abroad is often more challenging than expected. He encouraged Nigerians to carefully consider the realities of migration instead of assuming that relocating automatically guarantees a better quality of life.
His comments have sparked conversations on social media, with many Nigerians sharing different opinions about employment opportunities, migration, and the country’s economic situation.
