Presidency Rejects Peter Obi’s Allegations of Political Persecution, Says Claims Are ‘False and Misleading’
The Presidency has dismissed allegations by Peter Obi that he is being targeted by the administration of Bola Tinubu, describing the accusations as baseless and politically motivated.
The response came after Obi claimed that he was facing increasing intimidation and suggested that his safety could be at risk ahead of the 2027 general elections. He also alleged that efforts were being made to discourage organisations from inviting him to public events.
Reacting to the claims, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, rejected the allegations in a statement shared on his official X account.
According to Onanuga, Obi’s remarks are unsupported by evidence and are intended to attract public sympathy while shifting attention away from internal challenges facing his political movement and the **Nigeria Democratic Congress> (NDC).
He argued that the opposition politician has repeatedly linked the Federal Government to personal inconveniences without presenting verifiable facts.
Addressing Obi’s complaint about an incident at an airport where his vehicle was allegedly locked, Onanuga suggested the issue may have resulted from a breach of parking regulations rather than any deliberate government action.
The presidential aide also referenced Fidelity Bank, stating that the financial institution, in which Obi reportedly has significant interests, continues to operate successfully under the current administration’s economic policies. He maintained that the Federal Government has not targeted the bank in any way.
Onanuga further said the Tinubu administration remains focused on implementing economic reforms and governance initiatives, insisting that it has no interest in engaging in political persecution or distractions.
The Presidency maintained that its priority remains delivering policies aimed at improving the economy and the welfare of Nigerians, while dismissing Obi’s allegations as unfounded.
