10 Family Members Reportedly Killed in Overnight Attack on Plateau Community
At least 10 members of the same family have reportedly lost their lives after gunmen attacked Wereng-Camp in Kum village, located in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The deadly assault reportedly occurred late Saturday night and continued into the early hours of Sunday, leaving several residents injured and the community in shock.
Attack Lasted for Several Hours
According to local community leaders, the attackers stormed the village at about 11 p.m., opening fire on residents who had already gone to bed. The violence reportedly lasted until around 1 a.m., after which the gunmen fled into nearby bushes and rocky terrain.
The incident was confirmed by the President of the Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM), Barrister Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, and the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwom.
Community Leaders Condemn Violence
In a statement shared on social media, Mwantiri said information received from residents indicated that armed men invaded the community, killing 10 members of a single family while leaving several others with injuries.
Similarly, Tengwom described the attack as one of the deadliest incidents recorded in the area in recent times. He added that a village head also sustained serious injuries during the assault and is currently receiving medical treatment.
According to him, additional details are expected to emerge as investigations continue.
