Kwara State Police have launched a homicide investigation into the killing of farmer Azeez Garba in Isin Local Government Area. Authorities say efforts are underway to identify and arrest those responsible.
The Kwara State Police Command has begun a full-scale investigation into the killing of a farmer, Azeez Garba, whose body was discovered on his farmland in Isin Local Government Area.
The Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to immediately take over the case and deploy intelligence officers to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible for the crime.
The directive was announced in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, who described the killing as a shocking and unacceptable act.
According to the police, Garba left home to work on his farm located along the Owa-Onire axis, near the boundary between Isanlu-Isin and Owu-Isin, but failed to return home.
Concerned relatives and local vigilantes launched a search after he was reported missing. His motorcycle was later found parked at the farm, while his body was discovered a short distance away in nearby bushes with multiple machete wounds.
Police said investigations are ongoing and no arrests have been made so far. However, authorities assured residents that every available lead is being pursued to ensure those behind the murder are brought to justice.
The tragic incident has sparked renewed concerns over the safety of farmers across rural communities in Kwara State.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family has continued to demand justice. Speaking on behalf of the family, Garba’s daughter, Abdulazeez Rofiat, said her father simply went to his cocoa farm and never returned.
She appealed to security agencies to thoroughly investigate the case, identify those responsible, and ensure they face prosecution.
According to her, the family will continue to seek justice until the killers are brought before the law.
